Grammar explanation语法解释

Here are some ways we use articles in common phrases and place names.以下是我们在常用短语和地名中使用冠词的一些方法。

Common phrases常用短语

We don’t usually use an article in expressions with bed, work and home.我们通常不会在表示 bed、work 和 home 的表达中使用冠词。

go to bed / be in bed上床睡觉/上床睡觉
go to work / be at work / start work / finish work去上班/正在工作/开始工作/完成工作
go home / be at home / get home / stay at home回家/待在家里/回家/呆在家里

We also don’t normally use an article in expressions with school, university, prison and hospital.我们通常也不在学校、大学、监狱和医院的表达中使用冠词。

start school / go to school / be at school开始上学/去学校/在学校
go to university / be at university上大学/在大学
be sent to prison / go to prison / be in prison被送进监狱/入狱/入狱
go to hospital / be in hospital去医院/住院

But we usually use the if someone is just visiting the place, and not there as a student/prisoner/patient, etc.但如果有人只是访问该地方，而不是作为学生/囚犯/病人等，我们通常会使用这个词。

Place names地名

We don’t normally use an article for continents, most countries, cities, towns, lakes, mountains or universities. So, we say:我们通常不会用冠词来表示各大洲、大多数国家、城市、城镇、湖泊、山脉或大学。所以，我们说：

Some countries are different. Country names with United have the. There are other countries which are exceptions too. So, we say:有些国家有所不同。国家名称中带有 United 的。还有其他国家也属于例外。所以，我们说：
